I’ve struggled with dandruff for most of my life. It’s not only have it on my head, but also in my beard. I set out on a journey to find the best dandruff shampoo for men. After scouring the internet to find the top 10 most recommended shampoos and conditioners. Once I had the best dandruff shampoos, I set out to find which one is the best of the best. A journey which took me nearly 8 months.
The Best Dandruff Shampoo
The best Shampoo, I found to be the Oars and Alps Men’s Naturally Derived Sulfate Free Shampoo. I’m not vegan but this is. It is made with tea tree oil, menthol, and witch hazel. It’s animal and cruelty free, doesn’t use sulfates, parabens, alcohol, phthalates or talc. When using this, the first thing I noticed is the smell. It smells amazing. While using it, you may feel a tingle on areas that are your problem areas for dandruff.
After using this for a few days, my dandruff was mostly under control. Nothing will get rid of dandruff 100%. Some days the air is dryer, or you’ll sweat more, something you eat or drink causes you to flake out. But I would say within a week of using this, I was 95% dandruff free. My hair felt fine, it didn’t feel damaged like some other dandruff shampoos have a habit of doing.
The best dandruff shampoo and conditioner
The best Dandruff shampoo and conditioner would have to be the Majestic Pure Apple Cider Vinegar Shampoo and Virgin Coconut Avocado Conditioner. Now, before you run away; it doesn’t smell like vinegar. The shampoo actually smells like crisp apples.
My wife used this one accidentally, it didn’t mess up her hair color at all. That Head and Shoulders will strip your hair color out quickly! This one can be used with the eyelett on the cap or with the pumps they provide.
It’s more of a natural dandruff shampoo, the apple cider vinegar works very well to reduce flakes and then these two combined; my hair has never looked or felt healthier. It worked great!
The runner up was the Royal Oils Shampoo and Conditioner. Both the shampoo and conditioner used apple cider vinegar and coconut oil to reduce flakes and keep your hair healthy. This also uses pyrithione zinc to reduce flakes.
It’s safe on colored or curly hair. The only downside is that it uses pyrithione zinc to reduce flakes and then uses the coconut oil to undo the damage from the pyrithione zinc. It’s much better than the other shampoos which just damage your hair.
It’s worked great for me, but only one could be the best. However, I would still recommend this product as it did work great and my hair still felt healthy afterwards.
Other products included with this comparison.
I’ve used this Head and Shoulders Paraben Free for years. Worked well enough. I used it every other day on my head and once a week on my beard. It was a good product, but very damaging to my hair and worse if you have colored hair.
I’ve used this Selsun Blue in the past. Both then and now, it works pretty well for a few weeks but after around a month, month and a half; it stops working as well.
The Matrix Biolage shampoo worked a bit. But I was able to use this every other day like I prefer to keep my hair healthy. There was a reduction in flakes but the redness and itchiness was still there.
The Nizoral Anti-Dandruff shampoo works GREAT. But it’s super damaging to my hair. I tend to use this while traveling, when my dandruff is at it’s worst. Hotel dry air, being in the car for hours. This helps to keep the flakes down but again, super damaging.
I didn’t like the clinical strength Head and Shoulders. The dandruff was still there, the redness and itchiness was still there. I had to use it every day or else my hair would look like a 90s grunge band member.
Every Man Jack makes some good products, however I felt like their dandruff shampoo was not one of them.
I didn’t feel like this was doing anything to reduce the dandruff or itchiness.
This one, I didn’t fully understand. The Kick anti dandruff conditioner had great reviews, several articles recommending it. I didn’t feel like it didn’t feel like it was doing anything to reduce my dandruff.
There you have it. The culmination of nearly 8 months of research on the best dandruff shampoos to find out which one is the best of the best. Have you ever considered a monthly watch subscription? Check out this article to learn more: Watch Gang, One Year Review
