xSuit 2.1 Review: Great for Comfort & Style

There is something about a great fitting suit that really boosts your confidence. I’ve checked out some of xSuit’s options before and, with the launch of the xSuit 2.1, was excited to see what it was like. Before jumping into the review of this particular suit, let’s look at a brief overview of the company.

Who are xSuit?

If you’re a subscriber to the Dad Bod, you can probably recall xSuit as I’ve reviewed their products before. Even if this is your first time with our content, there’s a chance that you’ve saw this company before as it has gained a lot of media attention. It’s been featured on Mashable, Forbes, Men’s Journal, Newsweek, and several other prominent publications.

xSuit is actually a crowdfunded startup, garnering an impressive $650,000 over campaigns with Kickstarter and Indiegogo. The goal of the company is to produce clothing that provides people with both comfort and style, allowing them to look sharp without feeling overly stiff as can be the case with traditional suits. As you’ll see in this review, the xSuit 2.1 has succeeded in this mission.

Now, for those who value corporate responsibility, you’ll also love that xSuit focuses on reducing waste within the textile industry. For them, this involves assessing their supply chain as well as reusing whatever is possible. Now for the reason you’re likely reading this – let’s check out the xSuit 2.1.

Introducing the xSuit 2.1

The xSuit 2.1 is the next generation suit that has evolved from the xSuit 2.0. If you’ve been following xSuit, you’ll know that their 2.0 version was incredibly popular and quickly sold out in many sizes. Thus, it is no surprise that the company decided to build upon this popularity by making some tweaks and releasing the 2.1 model. Currently, you’ll find both the 2.1 and 3.0 available on their website.

If you checkout their website, you may be a bit confused as the ordering page has references to the xSuit 2.0; however, this suit is retired, and you will be getting the 2.1 version. The suits come in four different colors including black, grey, navy blue, and charcoal. Jackets come in sizes ranging from 34 to 52 while the trousers range from 26 to 44. Will you like the xSuit 2.1? Let me tell you a bit about my experience.

My Thoughts on the xSuit 2.1

I ordered the suit in black, partly because I just love a stylish black suit and also to allow me to give a good comparison to the xSuit 3.0, which I previously reviewed in black (comparison coming soon). If you wear a long jacket, it’s important to know that these only come in regular sizes. However, I typically wear either a 50L or 52L; I got a 52 and the sleeves are perfectly fine. However, it is important to know that the sizes run small. My 52 is a bit snug so if you usually wear a 52 or larger, you probably won’t like this one.

If you are someone that wants to have lots of choices for customization, you may not be overly impressed with the xSuit 2.1. While it is a great product in so many ways, customization isn’t one of them as the suits are fairly standard aside from color. Jackets are single breasted with one button, have notch lapels, shoulder pads, a single vent in the back, and four buttons on the sleeve.

You’ll find three external pockets that are sewn shut as is common for mail order suits. However, I was able to easily pull the stitching apart. You can also use a pocketknife or simply take it to your tailor. One thing I like about this suit is that the two internal pockets are zippered, which provides a bit extra protection.

When it comes to the trousers, you’ll find that they are a bit long for you and will need to take them to your tailor to get them hemmed. While this does add an extra item to your to-do list, xSuit offers a credit towards future purchases in the amount it costs you. Simply provide them with a receipt from your tailor. They also have a flat front with belt loops and are fasted with two buttons.

There are a number of things I like about the xSuit 2.1. Perhaps my favorite thing is the blending of comfort and style. Most of you have probably had experiences with suits that feel stiff and rigid. These can really make dressing up nice a lot less enjoyable. That isn’t an issue with the xSuit 2.1 as the fabric is extremely comfortable. It is softer than wool and is engineering with a six-way stretch that gives you a much wider range of movement. You certainly won’t have to worry about accidentally splitting your pants on the dance floor.

My second favorite thing about this suit is the sheer convenience of owning it. As you know, most suits require a lot of special upkeep and care to keep them looking nice. xSuits are designed for minimal maintenance. The fabric uses nanotech that is liquid and stain repellent. Meanwhile, they are designed to be highly wrinkle resistant. You can pack them in your luggage or even stuff them in a gym bag if you feel like it without needing to iron, steam, or dry clean it before wearing.

Overall, here are some of my favorite benefits of the xSuit 2.1:

·       Extremely soft and comfortable

·       Stretchable for an increased range of motion

·       Wrinkle resistant minimizes maintenance

·       Liquid and stain resistant for worry free wears

·       Zippered inside pockets

·       Very stylish

Here are some of the limitations or considerations for potential purchasers:

·       Sizes run a bit small

·       Not much customization available

·       You’ll need to have the trousers hemmed (although you get a credit for a future order)

Overall, I really like the xSuit 2.1. It feels great to wear and looks great. They have definitely succeeded in finding a great blend of style and comfort, making wearing suits quite enjoyable.
