Buttoned Down Shirt

What’s the difference between Amazon’s Essentials, Goodthreads, and Button Down Brands?

Many of you have asked this question so here you go. Hopefully this helps. What is the different between Amazon Essentials, Goodthreads, and Buttoned Down clothing brands?

Amazon has had several different private labels over the past 5+ years. Some have survived and some have slowly disappeared. When it comes to clothing, there are four that are sprinkled all throughout your search results. I’m going to go over three of them today. The fourth one is Craft and Soul, all I am going to say about that one is that you get what you pay for and some items really need you to pay a little more. $80 for a suit is probably not going to give you the outcome that you are hoping for.  The three brands that we are going to focus on today are:

These three brands have been around for a little over 5 years and have made a name for themselves, which is why they still exist. Each of these is geared towards competing with a specific group and type of stores.

Amazon Essentials

The first is Amazon Essentials. This brand is geared towards competing with your more budget friendly clothing stores such as Walmart, Target, and Old Navy.

Dress shirts from this brand are more often going to be found with sizes like Large, Small, 2XL. You likely wont find many shirt option with neck and sleeve sizes, collar styles, or fit sizes such as Tailored Fit or Tall.

The clothing in this line is going to be more synthetic material such as Rayon, Polyester, and Elastane.

They have a HUGE range of clothing options in the Amazon Essentials line. Things such as dress shirts, polos, shorts, khakis, workout gear, underwear, tshirts, and tank tops. You can even find other items such as wallets, watches, bath robes, jackets, and shoes.

Nearly all of the items in this line is under $25, most being in the 15 – 16 dollar range. That doesn’t mean they are cheap. There are good items in this range, I have quite a few.

Amazon Goodthreads

Next we have the Amazon Goodthreads line. This brand is meant to be a step up from the Amazon Essentials brand. It is meant to compete more with the stores in the hallways of malls. Your Izod, Banana Republic and J Crew stores.

The Goodthreads line considers itself to be more of an accessible luxury brand. They have more stylish items such as short sleeve and long sleeve shirts and shorts. They have higher quality fabrics such as 100% cotton jeans, shirts, swim shorts, and shirts.

Their dress shirts have more options when it comes to fit. They still have a large number of shirts with letter sizes such as Small, and Extra Large; however they also have options with neck and sleeve sizes which allows a better fit without tailoring. They also offer more ranges with their sizes such as slim fit, classic fit, and tailored fit. They include things such as higher quality sweaters and chino pants. The clothing items are also available in more color, pattern and design options as well as features such as stretch.

The items in this line range more around the 15 to 40 dollar range with some of their items such as jeans going up into the 60 range for big and tall sizes.

Amazon Buttoned Down

The final of these three is Amazon’s Buttoned Down line. This one is what they consider to be their affordable luxury line. It is meant to compete with companies such as Charles Tyrwhitt, Bonobos, and Brooks Brothers.

This is where the clothing really gets good in my opinion. You have the premium fabrics such as supima cotton and cashmere.  There are all sorts of sweater types from v-neck, crew neck, half zip and full zip. You also have nice higher quality dress shirts with several collar styles, sleeve styles, sizes, and fit styles. This line even has neck ties and bowties.

This brand is fairly limited to more of your nicer looking clothing. You really wont find logo t-shirts or various types and styles of workout clothing. The prices for this brand has a large range. $35 – $50 dress shirts, $60 dress pants, $40 chino shorts, and goes all the way up to suit separate pieces in the $200-300 range.

Another really cool thing about this line is their unconditional lifetime satisfaction guarantee which gives you a full refund at any time.

Hopefully, that helps you narrow down what it is that you’re looking for.
